Democrat Andy Beshear Claims Victory in Kentucky, as Rival Bevin Refuses to Concede

Kentucky’s Democratic attorney general, Andy Beshear, claimed victory over his Trump-supporting Republican opponent, Matt Bevin, in a close gubernatorial race on Tuesday, November 5, though Bevin was refusing to concede.

Supporters of the two candidates gathered in Louisville to follow the results, with Beshear claiming a win, saying the result sent a message “that says our elections don’t have to be about right versus left – they are still about right versus wrong.”

Bevin, the incumbent, later refused to concede, saying: “This is a close, close race. We are not conceding this race by any stretch.”

The Republican had aligned himself with Donald Trump and was vocal in his opposition of the impeachment proceedings against the president. Trump attended a rally for Bevin the night before the vote.
