'The Demon Headmaster' is returning to CBBC
The Demon Headmaster is being rebooted on CBBC, it’s been confirmed.
The 90s children’s show terrified a generation of young viewers, thanks mainly to actor Terrence Hardiman’s fearsome performance.
He played the nameless head with the gift for hypnosis and a desire to take over the world, first appearing on screen in 1996.
The show ran for three series, also starring Only Fools and Horses star Tessa Peake-Jones and Strictly’s Danny John-Jules.
It was based on the best-selling children’s book series penned by Gillian Cross, with the new series being adapted from her latest instalment.

It will be a 10-part series on CBBC and iPlayer, based in an academy school with a ‘Super Head’ who has hypnotic powers.
According to the BBC it ‘follows a group of mismatched kids who discover their headmaster is using hypnotism to gain ultimate control of their school. But how can they fight an antagonist who manipulates their every move?’
Of the new series, Hardiman told the Radio Times: “I have happy memories of working in The Demon Headmaster in the nineties, and I wish every success to the new production. I expect to be totally hypnotised.”
It follows news that duo Sam Nixon and Mark Rhodes have been drafted in to host a new version of veteran series Crackerjack, which aired from 1955 to 1984.
