Louis Healy - whose mum played Rovers Return landlady Natalie Barnes and dad Tim starred as plumber Paul Jones in the soap - auditioned for a role in the show last Friday.

A source told The Sun: “Denise and Louis took a road trip up to Manchester in her Mini last week where he was seen by the show’s bosses for a new role.

"Louis felt his audition went really well and ever since their trip Denise just hasn’t been able to stop chatting about her son joining the soap.

"It’s a really big deal for Denise as obviously Corrie is a big part of her life having been on it between 1997 and 2000.”

Denise and Louis were spotted at Corrie’s Manchester studios on Friday, but he hasn’t got the part just yet.

The source added: “It’s still not a done deal. But Louis felt like he gave it his all and is crossing everything.”

Should Louis land the Corrie role it won’t be his first foray into acting as the 15-year-old star has also appeared in Scott and Bailey in 2011 and the musical version of The Full Monty.

Denise played Natalie for three years from 1997 to 2000 and she recently starred in EastEnders as Kyle Slater’s (Riley Carter Millington) estranged mum Alison Slater.

Tim has appeared in sitcom Benidorm as Les/Lesley Conroy since 2009 but was recently written out of the ninth series after being struck down with a mystery illness last month which left him “fighting for his life” in hospital.
