Dajaune Brown and Joe Ward fired a timely reminder to head coach Paul Warne ahead of Derby County's trip to Sheffield United as they both scored in the under-21s victory over Wrexham.

The Rams sealed a 5-0 win at the FAW Training Centre in Newport yesterday as they returned tow inning ways following a Premier League Cup defeat against Bournemouth last week. First-team goalkeeper Rohan Luthra also played for Derby as Riley Moloney and striker Brown both hit a brace while Ward was also among the goals.

Brown opened the scoring after just three minutes before Moloney doubled the lead and and went on to make it 3-0 just after the half-hour mark. Brown and Ward then completed the victory in what was a fine performance. Under-21s Lead Coach Jake Buxton said: “It was a great response to last Friday’s result and we put a lot right that was wrong against Bournemouth.

“We competed better than the opposition, we looked physically fitter and stronger than the opposition and we showed a real quality with the ball. Most importantly, we took our chances when we created an opportunity.

“It was a great workout for all three first team players dropping in for minutes, too. They showed a great attitude in their approach to the game - and that rubbed off on the academy players.

“Overall, it was a very pleasing performance, and now we move our focus to our Premier League fixture at Liverpool on Saturday.”
