Derby County player Andre Wisdom is recovering in hospital after he was reportedly stabbed during an "unprovoked" attack in Liverpool.
According to Sky Sports News, Wisdom was visiting relatives in the Toxteth area of the city, but was stabbed and robbed on the street as he got out of his car.
In a statement, Derby County said: "Derby County Football Club can confirm that Andre Wisdom has been the victim of an unprovoked assault and robbery.
"He sustained injuries which resulted in him being admitted to hospital, where he is in a stable condition.
"Merseyside police are investigating and the club will focus its efforts on supporting Andre and his family. Therefore we will not be making any further comment at this time."
The club also tweeted a picture of the defender, saying: "Get well soon, Wis".
The player, who lives in Merseyside, joined Derby County in 2017 from Liverpool for a reported fee of around £3m.
It is expected that Wisdom will be released from hospital over the coming days, but he will almost certainly miss the next few Derby games as he recovers from his injuries.
Promotion-chasing Derby County play Preston on Wednesday, and then head to local rivals Nottingham Forest at the weekend.
