A series of changes have been announced to some recycling centres operated by Derbyshire County Council.

Opening hours will reduce at all eight Amber Valley sites from October 1, 2024 to between 9.30am and 5pm. The centres had previously opened at 8.30am and operated until 6pm.

Hours at the Waterswallows site in Buxton will remain the same as there are different contractual arrangements made at that particular centre.

Two sites - Stonegravels in Chesterfield and Ashbourne - will allow small businesses and independent traders to use the facilities between 8.30-9.30am and 5-6pm. The public will not be allowed in at these times.

Traders will be charged to dispose of their waste according to the type and its weight, the council added.

Additionally, residents will have to register to use the sites to ensure they are entitled to be there.

Derbyshire County Council Councillor Carolyn Renwick said: “We’re constantly looking for ways to make the services we provide more efficient and effective and having listened to the views of residents, we’re making some changes which we believe strike the right balance."
