Derry Girls and Top Boy stars join cast of new BBC thriller Bloodlands
James Nesbitt's new BBC thriller Bloodlands has signed up stars from Derry Girls and Top Boy as filming gets under way.
The BBC One show, which follows a Northern Ireland police detective played by Nesbitt, is executive produced by Line of Duty and Bodyguard's Jed Mercurio and written by Chris Brandon.
Joining for the ride are Derry Girls' Ian McElhinney (below) and Kathy Kiera Clarke, as well as Top Boy's Lisa Dwan, alongside a host of other names.
Among them are Michael Smiley (Luther), Lorcan Cranitch (Fortitude), Charlene McKenna (Ripper Street), Lola Petticrew (My Left Nut), Chris Walley (1917) and Susan Lynch (Happy Valley).
The official synopsis reads: "When a car containing a possible suicide note is pulled out of Strangford Lough, Northern Irish police detective Tom Brannick (Nesbitt) quickly connects it to an infamous cold case with enormous personal significance.
"Bloodlands follows his hunt for the legendary assassin known as 'Goliath', an explosive cat-and-mouse game where the stakes have never been higher."
Nesbitt previously said of signing up: "It's great to be back making a drama in and about Northern Ireland, which now has a film and television industry as good as any in the world.
"We have compelling scripts from a brilliant young writer who was raised in County Down, which are very exciting and psychologically complex. I can't wait to start."
Bloodlands will air on BBC One.
