Designated Survivor star Maggie Q has signed up for a new comedy pilot alongside Once Upon a Time star Ginnifer Goodwin.

Maggie, whose previous credits also include Nikita and the Divergent series, is going to be the co-lead in Pivoting – which is in the works at Fox, according to Deadline.

She will play Sarah, one of three women who is grieving the loss of a childhood best friend. Ginnifer co-stars as Jodie, and Scrubs star Eliza Coupe as Amy.

The trio reconnect and strengthen their bond as a result of their friend Coleen's death – but also make some ill-advised decisions along the way.

Maggie's character Sarah is described as "tightly-wound". A doctor, she's very recently divorced her wife, who cheated on her.

After losing Coleen, Sarah rethinks her life and decides it's time to quit medicine for a career change, in a move which both surprises and excites Amy and Jodie.

Meanwhile, Ginnifer's character Jodie is struggling in an unhappy marriage to a husband who isn't giving her the space to be herself. However, her personal trainer could be the route to the excitement and affection she's seeking.

Pivoting will be written by Liz Astrof, whose previous credits include 2 Broke Girls and Kath & Kim. She will also be an executive producer on the show alongside director Tristam Shapeero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, GLOW).

Maggie recently finished work on The Asset, a crime thriller in which she stars alongside Samuel L Jackson and Michael Keaton.

She also recently teamed up with Westworld's Luke Hemsworth for a thriller called Death of Me.
