British designers want to turn the Olympic Park's Orbit Tower into a giant helter skelter slide.

The eye-catching tower, designed by artist Anish Kapoor, was built in 2012 for the London Olympics and has since been used as an observation tower.

But London Legacy Development Corporation, which manages the park in Newham, east London, has asked for permission to convert it into Britain's tallest spiral slide.

If plans go ahead, it will be possible to slide down the 115m steel tower from a height of 80m, going round five loops before a speedy descent to the ground.

A spokesperson for the corporation said: 'We are committed to ensuring our visitors have the best possible day out every time they visit Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

'And as with all our venues we are constantly exploring ways to ensure we are leading the way with the latest visitor experience.

'The addition of a slide would be an exciting and alternative way to descend from the viewing platforms, and will give a different perspective of Britain's tallest sculpture.'
