A corner plot of Leicestershire land has surpassed estimates at auction. Would-be buyers were told that the land was in a "desirable" location that once grew fruit and vegetables.

The parcel of land, in Old Dalby's Longcliffe Hill, near Melton, was part of the latest auction lots from SDL Property Auctions. At just 200 sqm, auctioneers said that despite its size the land had the "potential for development", subject to relevant planning permission.

Due to its location six miles north west of Melton and nine miles north east of Loughborough, SDL Property Auctions said the site, opposite the junction of Debdale Hill, was in a highly "desirable" Leicestershire village location. They said this made it an attractive option for would-be buyers.

That proved to be the case for its auction this week when the land, which had a guide price of £25,000, surpassed expectations. In the end, amid interest from bidders, the land sold for £30,000.
