Destruction in Streets of Raqqa After SDF Victory

A drive through the neighborhoods of Raqqa on October 18 after the victory of US-backed SDF forces reveals crushed buildings, rubble strewn in the streets, and burned out cars.

In this video, buildings seem to be turned inside out, with their contents lying in heaps in front of them. Whole building facades are missing. The lightposts and trees in the median of a street lie on the ground.

The Syrian Democratic Forces claimed victory in Raqqa on October 17, but have asked residents not to return until the city is cleared of bombs. Four months of fighting, including US-backed coalition airstrikes, have caused extensive damage to the city. Credit: YouTube/Qasioun News Agency via Storyful
