Ulster may have narrowly lost their final URC regular season game to Munster on Saturday, but the outcome had big consequences for this season and next. Richie Murphy's men produced another impressive display against the league leaders at Thomond Park.

They bounced back from conceding an early RG Snyman try to run in three of their own against the championship holders. Munster rallied as the game wore on running out winners in the end by five points.

That deficit was enough to earn the visitors a losing bonus point and secure sixth place in the final standings for Ulster. In the process it not only means they will now travel to Dublin to play Leinster in the play-offs instead of facing a trip to South Africa to face the Bulls, as well as securing a place in next season's Champions Cup.

Ulster will take on Leinster at the Aviva Stadium next Saturday, June 8, at 5pm. Having already beaten Leinster home and away this season head coach Richie Murphy says his side will head to Dublin in confident mood.

"We are really looking forward to getting to Dublin next week to give it a crack," he said. "We are looking forward to next week. There are no easy games in the playoffs and we are looking forward to going to the Aviva Stadium to take on Leinster.

"We are becoming really hard to beat and know that we have a real chance in a one-off game. We can take plenty from tonight but ultimately frustrated not to win the game. We put ourselves in a really good place at half-time but Munster came out well in the second half and ultimately deserved the victory."
