Details of Foyle Hospice Male Walk and Run confirmed

Details of one of Derry's biggest annual fundraising events have been confirmed, as preparations continue for this year's Foyle Hospice Male Walk/Run.

The Derry end-of-life charity has been running the event for over 20 years, with this year's edition set to go ahead on September 29.

Once again, participants will be glad to know this year’s walk will feature the flat 5k course. This includes the Craigavon Bridge and the Peace Bridge, so walkers and runners of all ages will enjoy taking part. The walk will start at Sainsbury’s at 11:30 am and it will end at the same location.

A spokesperson for the charity said: "When you sign up for the Male Walk/Run you will receive a specially designed event t-shirt to keep as a souvenir of taking part in an iconic event for a worthy cause."

Foyle Hospice Community Fundraiser, Noel McMonagle said: “We want men of all ages to join us for a worthy cause and make this even bigger and better than last year.

“The Male Walk is a very special event and it is so important to us because every registration will make a difference to our services.

“It will help towards the running costs of the Hospice and therefore allow us to continue to care for our patients and provide support to their families.

“We are really looking forward to it but we need your help lads to make this happen! Grab everyone you know and let’s make this Male Walk/Run one to remember!”

Foyle Hospice’s Dr Damien McMullan added: “Every day, I see the vital support provided by Foyle Hospice. The whole team works to do their best for patients and their families trying to cope with the devastating impact of life-limiting illness.

“We are privileged to be able to help people live as fully as possible until the end of their lives and to support their loved ones. They inspire us to keep going.”

He continued: “Foyle Hospice grew from the community under the leadership and dedication of Dr McGinley and the team and we could not continue to do what we do without the amazing support of our wonderful community and fantastic volunteers. Brilliant events such as the Male Walk are a huge part of this.

“If you are free on Sunday 29th September for a few hours, please consider getting involved in the Male Walk. We will be uniting together, to walk or run for a great cause, all while having a bit of craic. Thank you for supporting it!”
