Inspired by the legend of Hanuman, an icon embodying strength and courage, the revenge flick stars Patel as a man with no name, scarred by a brutal childhood, who ekes out a meager living in underground fighting rings. But when he finds a way to rise up and infiltrate his city’s corrupt elite, he kicks off an explosive campaign for retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him as a boy. Channeling the rage of the poor and powerless, an unexpected hero emerges.

Patel conceived the original story for Monkey Man, penning the script with Paul Angunawela and John Collee (Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World). Those starring alongside him include Sharlto Copley (Hardcore Henry 9), Sobhita Dhulipala (The Night Manager), Vipin Sharma (Hotel Mumbai), Sikandar Kher (24: India) and Pitobash Tripathi (Million Dollar Arm).

In addition to Patel, producers included Jomon Thomas, Jordan Peele, Win Rosenfeld, Ian Cooper, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Christine Haebler, Sam Sahni and Anjay Nagpal. The executive producers are Jason Cloth, Suraj Maraboyina, Adam Somer, Aaron L. Gilbert, Andria Spring, Alison-Jane Roney, Steven Thibault, Jonathan Fuhrman and Natalya Pavchinskaya.

Prior to Monkey Man, Patel was seen starring in A24’s The Green Knight and a number of Wes Anderson shorts adapting the stories of Roald Dahl, including Poison and the Oscar-winning The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar. Up next, he’ll be seen in Bryn Chainey’s horror film Rabbit Trap and the twisted romance Wicker with Olivia Colman.
