Devastated sister pays tribute to Rangers-fan rapper after death just days before headline gig

A heartbroken sister has paid tribute to her brother following his sudden death just days before he was due to headline his first ever show.

Mark Murray, also known as M2, was rushed to Hairmyres Hospital after he was found unwell on Mallard Crescent, East Kilbride, at around 2.40pm on Saturday, September 7.

The Daily Record reports that after spending four days in intensive care, the 25-year-old, from Castlemilk, sadly died on September 11. Police Scotland is currently treating the death as unexplained with enquiries ongoing.

Mark's sister Eboni McTaggart said her brother put up an 'amazing fight' before his death.

Posting on Facebook , she wrote: "As everyone knows my amazing brother lost his life yesterday after putting up an amazing fight.

"We all know how much of a special guy he was. Fly high my amazing brother. You have most definitely left a print in so many people's lives and the most loved boy."

Rangers fan Mark was set to headline the Poetry Club at SWG3 in Glasgow next month.

Sharing the news on Instagram just days before his death, Mark wrote: "First headline show announced at SWG3 poetry club 16th of October!

"Hope to see everyone of you there. Crazy to think this is all in less than a years work."

A GoFundMe has now been set up to contribute to Mark's funeral by his friend Peter Miller. Football cards are available in local shops to give donations to his family. So far almost £5000 has been raised.

Eboni invited Mark's loved ones to join the family in a balloon release to celebrate his life.

She added: "I would like to ask everyone in joining myself and my family to let off balloons for Mark Murray on Saturday, September 21st at 9pm in nowhere other than his favourite scheme, the Valley.

"I would ask that everyone stick to purple and blue balloons as these are his favourite colours. I would also like to say on behalf of myself and my family we are extremely grateful for every single kind words that has been sent our way during the most difficult time of our lives.

"Also for all the very, very generous donations on the GoFundMe."

Friends and fans were quick to remember Mark following his sudden death.

Jordan McKenzie wrote: "RIP bro. Nothing will be the same without you. We'll all make sure your name is never forgotten. Miss you already. Most talented boy I've ever met and would have put Scottish drill on the map."

Aimee Paton added: "R.I.P M2. Sending so much love to your family and friends. Thinking of you. Fly High."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a 25-year-old man having taken unwell in Mallard Crescent, East Kilbride around 2.40pm on Saturday, 7 September, 2024.

“Emergency services attended and he was taken to Hairmyres Hospital for treatment, where he died on Wednesday, 11 September, 2024.

“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.

“A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
