Devastating earthquake on Greek island of Lesbos kills one and injures 10

An earthquake on the Greek island of Lesbos has left one person dead and a further 10 injured.

The mayor of Lesbos, Spyros Galinos, confirmed that a woman had been killed in the village of Vrisa, in the worst hit area.

Other residents of the village have been evacuated and are staying in temporary accommodation nearby.

Homes were destroyed by the quake, which registered a magnitude of 6.3.

Tremors could be felt in Athens and in Western Turkey, as well as on neighbouring islands.
