'Devastating loss' as police name Mapperley mum who died in A46 crash
The family of a woman who died following a crash on the A46 have paid tribute to a ‘beloved mother, daughter and sister.' Emergency services were called to a collision involving two cars and a van near Screveton around 10.30pm on Saturday (November 23).
Sithembile Kona, of Mapperley, was pronounced dead at the scene despite the best efforts of emergency services who attended. The family of the 49-year-old has now released a tribute through Nottinghamshire Police, which reads: "A beloved mother, daughter, sister and friend has sadly passed away. She is survived by her son, Kudakwashe, and mother in Zimbabwe.
“Her sudden passing is a devastating loss to her family and friends in the UK, Zimbabwe, and around the world. Our darling Sithembile, thank you for everything you have done for us. Forever in our hearts.”
The road, near Newark, remained shut southbound while investigations took place before being reopened at around 3pm. Police still need witnesses to come forward.
Investigator Sarah Butler, of Nottinghamshire Police ’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "Our thoughts remain with Sithembile’s family and officers will continue to help them during this very difficult time. I would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to get in touch.”
