Devon court cases: 24 men and women guilty of crimes
Dangerous drivers and men and women convicted of violent offences are among the most recent offenders appearing at the magistrates' courts in Devon. Assaults on police officers and two people given interim sexual risk orders also feature.
This list of cases heard in Exeter, Barnstaple and Newton Abbot includes 24 people from the across the county. Most are punished with community orders, suspended sentences or fines.
The biggest fine of the week was £929 handed to a man for drink driving. Another defendant was slapped with a £666 fine for assaulting a police officer.

Here are the latest cases to be heard at the magistrates' courts in Devon.
SEPTEMBER 18
Stephen Caventer, Devon Road, Exeter. Age: 65. Between 27/01/2023 and 30/01/2023 at Exeter adult attempted to engage in sexual communication with child. Breach of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. Plea: Guilty. Committed to crown court for sentence on 16/10/2024.
SEPTEMBER 19
Warren Raymont, Longmeadow Cottages, Clyst St Mary. Age: 34. On 07/02/2024 drug driving. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Unpaid work 100 hours. Rehabilitation activity for six days. Disqualified for 38 months.
Steven Ferguson, Howard Close, Exeter. Age: 44. On 08/12/2023 at Exeter assaulted a male by beating. Plea: Guilty. 12 weeks in prison. Compensation £200.
Darren Totterdell, Ashprington. Age: 52. On 31/01/2024 at Totnes drove a vehicle dangerously on Totnes Down Hill. Plea: Guilty. 26 weeks suspended for 12 months. Curfew for three months. Disqualified for 15 months.
Bailey Slocombe, Elm Close, Broadclyst. Age: 23. On 27/06/2024 at Lime Kiln car park, Budleigh, drove while disqualified and failed to provide a specimen. Plea: Guilty. Eight weeks suspended for 12 months. Rehabilitation activity for 15 days. Unpaid work for 120 hours. Disqualified for 60 months.
Thomas Greenslade, Mead Way, Seaton. Age: 29. On 04/01/2022 at Exmouth drove dangerously on Mamhead View. Plea: Guilty. 24 weeks suspended for 12 months. Rehabilitation activity for 20 days. Unpaid work for 180 hours. Compensation £300.
Matthew Roy, Merrythorn Road, Fremington. Age: 43. On 19/05/2024 drink driving. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 12 months. Fined £120.
Joanne Coombes, Hawthorn Park , Bideford. Age: 39. On 02/06/2024 at Bideford drink driving on Silver Street. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 16 months. Fine £120.
Alistair Giddy, Cairn Road, Ilfracombe. Age: 33. On 30/08/2024 at Market Street, Ilfracombe used threatening and abusive words and behaviour. Plea: Guilty. Fine £69.
Malcolm Podmore, Chittlehampton. Age: 62. On 02/09/2024 at Bishops Tawton, drove when alcohol over the limit. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 14 months. Fine £565.
SEPTEMBER 23
Cathryn Owen, Buckland Close, Bideford. Age: 44. On 25/06/2024 at Bideford resisted a constable in execution of duty. Plea: Guilty. Fine £80.
Harry Pritchard, Nelson Drive, Exmouth. Age: 30. On 25/07/2024 at Kingston Road, Exmouth, driving whilst disqualified and without insurance. Possession of cannabis. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Rehabilitation activity for 20 days. Unpaid work for 120 hours. Disqualified for 21 months.
Gyles Herbert, Natcott Lane, Bideford. Age: 35. On 18/09/2024 at Barnstaple town centre breached a restraining order prohibiting entry. Plea: Guilty. Fine £80.
SEPTEMBER 24
Josh O’Connor, Frys Lane, Sidford. Age: 20. On 16/03/2024 at Sidmouth drink driving and drug driving on Cotford Road. Using threatening words or behaviour. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 30 months. Fine £926.
Martyn Rudin, Mill Road, Okehampton. Age: 73. On 04/09/2024 at Haven Road, Exeter drunk and disorderly in a public place. Plea: Guilty. Fine £40.
Michaela Bray, Oakford Villas, South Molton. Age: 49. On 06/09/2024 at Market Street, South Molton, common assault on an emergency worker. Plea: Guilty. Fine £200. Compensation £100.
Edmund Legg, Laburnum Road, Exeter. Age: 42. At Fore Street, Exeter, used threatening or abusive words and behaviour. Plea: Guilty. Fine £100.
Oliver Hull, South View Terrace, Exminster. Age: 20. On 07/09/2024 at Exeter Police Station assaulted a police officer by beating. Plea: Guilty. Fined £666.
Ryan Foley, c/o Westcountry House, Barnstaple. Age: 20. On 15/06/2024 at Barnstaple assaulted a female by beating. Plea: Guilty. Community order for nine months. Rehabilitation order for eight days. Compensation £200.
Juraj Knazek, Station Road, South Molton. Age: 38. Application for a sexual risk order and for an interim order to be made pending determination of the main application. Interim sexual risk order made for 18 weeks or until the main application is determined.
Joel Palmer, Hughes Avenue, Barnstaple. Age: 33. Application for a sexual risk order and for an interim order to be made pending determination of the main application. Interim sexual risk order made for 16 weeks or until the main application is determined.
SEPTEMBER 25
Ronnie Gliddon, Marlborough Road, Ilfracombe. Age: 66. On 12/02/2024 at Witheridge assaulted a female by beating, common assault on an emergency worker, use threatening words or behaviour. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Rehabilitation activity for 30 days. Fine £300.
Rebecca Richardson, Widgery Road, Exeter. Age: 31. On 10/07/2023 at Newham Stores, South Street, Exeter, committed fraud by false representation by using a bank card causing loss to another and branched bail. Plea: Guilty. Seven weeks in prison.
Yvonne Jordan, Smythen Street, Exeter. Age: 47. On 22/09/2024 stole meat to the value of £428.50 from Marks and Spencer, Exe Bridges. Also attempted theft from John Lewis and breached a criminal behaviour order. Plea: Guilty. Prison for 18 weeks suspended for 18 months.
