Devon courts: Drugs, violence, vandalism and drink driving dealt with by magistrates
The courts in Devon have dealt with a range of offences in the last couple of weeks. They include a man sentenced for violence in Sidwell Street and a woman from Torquay given a suspended sentence for assaulting an emergency worker.
Every day magistrates courts across the county hear cases ranging from low level shoplifting to serious acts of violence and sexual crime.
Here are the latest cases to be heard at courts in Exeter, Barnstaple and Newton Abbot.

OCTOBER 30
Ryan Haslam, Burrator Drive, Exeter. Age: 19. On 25/08/2023 at Exeter assaulted a PC, possession 1.3g cannabis, obstructed a PC. Plea: Guilty. Conditional discharge for two years.
Adam Peard, NFA, Barnstaple. Age: 37. On 27/10/2024 at B&Q Barnstaple burglary stealing power tools. Plus burglary at Marks & Spencer. Plea: Guilty. Prison for 12 months. Compensation of £1,093.
John Passmore, Jarrard Close, Honiton. Age: 42. On 24/09/2023 at Honiton assault by beating emergency worker. Plea: Guilty. Fined £120. Compensation £50.
Paul Sharpe, Brimpenny Road, Exmouth. Age: 33. On 04/11/2023 at Exeter Police Station assaulted an emergency worker by beating. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Abstain from alcohol for 70 days. Unpaid work for 200 hours. Compensation £100.

Kyle Wallace, Manley Close, Exeter. Age: 37. On 19/04/2024 at Exeter drug driving. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Unpaid work for 120 hours. Disqualified for 22 months.
Daniel Smith, Gould Road, Exeter. Age: 30. On 25/04/2024 on M5 at Exeter drove when drug above the limit. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for two years. Fine £200.
Ben Lawrence, Poundsland, Broadclyst. Age: 50. On 11/10/2024 at Church Hill, Exeter, drink driving. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Unpaid work for 80 hours. Disqualified for 23 months.
Jack Rutley, Barton Road, Okehampton. Age: 22. On 12/10/2024 at Leahols Road, Okehampton, drink driving. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 12 months. Fine £348.
Daniel Ebdon, Oak Ridge, Burlescombe, Tiverton. Age: 37. On 13/10/2024 on Fore Street, Exeter, drove when alcohol above the limit. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 12 months. Fine £120.
Dean Hayes, Magdalen Street, Exeter. Age: 37. On 15/10/2024 at Western Way, Exeter, drunk and disorderly. Plea: Guilty. Fine £133.
Edvin Karpejev, Brooklands Farm Close, Kilmington. Age: 24. On 16/10/2024 at Honiton Road, Exeter driving above alcohol limit. Plea: Guilty. Disqualified for 20 months. Fine £392.

Kevin Earner, Colley Park Road, Barnstaple. Age: 44. On 29/11/2023 at Braunton Road, Barnstaple harassment of a male and female without violence. Plea: Not Guilty. Verdict: Found Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Unpaid work for 80 hours.

James Dawson, Howell Road, Exeter. Age: 44. On 03/11/2024 at Pennsylvania Road, Exeter, criminal damage to wine at Co-Op. Further offences of theft, using threatening words or behaviour, assaulting a male by beating, burglary. Plea: Guilty. Prison for six weeks.
Carl Ascott, Hawkins Road, Exeter. Age: 52. On 01/09/2024 at Exeter vehicle interference and theft. Plea: Guilty. Conditional discharge for 18 months.

Harry Sommers, Lipscomb Avenue, Exmouth. Age: 21. On 01/06/2024 on Sidwell Street, Exeter, assaulted a male by beating. Plea: Guilty. Community order for 12 months. Unpaid work for 80 hours.

Patricia Radford, Shakespeare Close, Torquay. Age: 62. On 28/02/2023 at Exeter assaulted an emergency worker. Plea: Guilty. Custody for 12 weeks suspended for 12 months. Compensation £50.
Alan Johnson, Sunnymead, Pinhoe. Age: 67. On On 11/05/2024 at M5 Exeter drove a vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence, without insurance and while disqualified. Plea: Guilty. Community order for four months. Curfew.
Oak Mackay, Cowick Lane, Exeter. Age: 25. On 17/06/2023 at Cranbrook assaulted a male causing ABH. Plea: Guilty. Fine £800. Compensation £750.
Kurt Buxton, NFA, Ilfracombe. Age: 46. On 25/10/2024 at Ilfracombe used threatening and insulting behaviour. Further offences of assaulting a female and emergency workers. Plea: Guilty. Prison for 60 weeks.
