Devon crash sees casualty hospitalised with road closed 'indefinitely'

A man has been taken to hospital after a crash in Devon. The A385 Ashburton Road in Dartington is currently closed in both directions after a crash in the town shortly before 11am today (Sunday, July 7).

Devon and Cornwall Police officers are at the scene and a spokesperson for the force has said a collision investigation is underway. The road is closed between Shinners Bridge in Dartington to the A381 Western-by-pass in Totnes. According to reports, traffic is diverting via the A381.

One man sustained injuries in the crash and has been taken to hospital, a police spokesperson has said. They said they could not specify when Ashburton Road would re-open and added that an investigation is underway.

Traffic monitor Inrix reports: "A385 Ashburton Road in both directions closed, very slow traffic due to accident from A384 ( Shinners Bridge , Dartington) to A381 Western By-pass ( Totnes ). The closure has been extended to allow traffic to divert via the A381 Western Bypass."

Bus company Stagecoach said the service Gold between Paignton and Plymouth is 'heavily disrupted' due to the crash near Shinners Bridge. In a post on social media, Stagecoach said: " #Plymouth Service Gold heavily disrupted due to accident at Shinners Bridge. Road closed in both directions."
