Diarmuid O'Carroll agrees Newcastle Utd switch as St Mirren begin No.2 replacement hunt
Newcastle United have agreed a compensation package with St Mirren for their assistant manager Diarmuid O'Carroll.
The Irishman was absent for Saturday's 2-1 Premiership win over Hearts and will join the English Premier League giants as their reserve/under-21 team boss, Record Sport understands. It is a massive opportunity for O’Carroll to bring through the next generation of stars to Eddie Howe’s first team. Former St Mirren manager Jack Ross is already head of coach development at Newcastle United.
It is a blow to the Buddies as O’Carroll has been a major part of Stephen Robinson’s backroom team. He previously worked with him at Motherwell, Morecambe and then again at St Mirren. Robinson is now looking to bring in a new No. 2. and has several options, but could promote from within. Brian Kerr who has done an impressive job with the St Mirren under-age groups could come into the thinking. He has previously been assistant manager at Motherwell to Stevie Hammell.
