Martin Scorsese's next project may feature Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro, in what would be an Oscar-winning trifecta of stars.

Deadline reports that DiCaprio, Scorsese and De Niro are all "seriously considering" signing up to the upcoming film adaptation of Killers Of The Flower Moon: The Osage Murders And The Birth Of The FBI ahead of the book's release next week.

Based on David Grann's source material, Killers tells the true story of multiple murders of members of the Osage Indian tribe in Oklahoma that occurred after oil was found on their lands, before the federal government had to step in.

Killers Of The Flower Moon will be adapted for the big screen by Eric Roth (Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Insider), after rights to the movie were purchased by Imperative Entertainment for $5 million. Imperative partners Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas are on board to produce.

Scorsese and De Niro are also set to reunite on The Irishman, which will tell the story of union-official-turned-mob-hitman Frank 'The Irishman' Sheeran, famously chronicled in the Charles Brandt novel I Heard You Paint Houses.

Meanwhile, DiCaprio will be starring as the 'Italian Sherlock Holmes' (sort of) in an adaptation of Stephan Talty's book The Black Hand.

The story follows Joe Petrosino (aka the 'Italian Sherlock Holmes'), an NYPD detective who goes after the Black Hand gang in early 1900s America.

Leo was last seen in The Revenant, for which he finally won the Oscar for Best Actor.
