Dick and Angel Strawbridge are finally about to complete their French home renovation with a ninth and last series of Escape to the Chateau.

The couple and their children have been documenting the mammoth task of restoring a chateau to its former glory and adjusting to life in France since 2016, but the new series on Channel 4 is confirmed as being the last.

However, this isn't the last we'll see of the Strawbridges' French adventures - Channel 4 has already commissioned a new spin-off series for 2023, Escape to the Chateau: Secret France.

It will see the family unlock the secrets of France that they have discovered in the seven years since they moved there.

The last series of Escape to the Chateau will see the Strawbridges' home back open for business after two years of the pandemic, with a busy schedule of hosting weddings, events, and its biggest ever Christmas extravaganza.

As the year comes to a close, the family reminisce about the last seven years since they moved to France and their home, which had no electricity, water or sewage, and no way of paying for itself.

They want to thank all those who have helped them with a Christmas party to end their ‘year of celebrations’ on a high, surrounded by their family and friends.

Viewers will also see the couple repurpose parts of the property to cater for weddings, discover more secret corners of the house and gardens, and create a winter garden on stilts

The Strawbridges said: "Escape to the Chateau has been our family journey; our decision to buy a chateau with no water, electricity, heating or sewage has taken us on the adventure of a lifetime and we could never have imagined what would unfold. The good, the bad and the ugly…we have cherished every second and love that we have a visual record to show Arthur and Dorothy when they’re older.

“We’re so grateful to everyone who continues to support us and we’re looking forward to what the future holds. As one chateau chapter ends, so another chateau story begins…’’
