Escape to the Chateau fans will have welcomed the news that Dick Strawbridge and Angel Adoree are returning to TV screens this weekend.

Dick and Angel broke the hearts of many when they announced that they would not be continuing with their beloved Channel 4 show. The couple documented how their once dilapidated 45-bedroom mansion, Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson, was transformed into a stunning property that also hosts weddings.

The long-running series ended after its festive special in 2022. The pair will now front a new travel series starting this Sunday, June 2, at 8pm on Channel 4 called Secret France with Dick and Angel.

What caused the end of Escape to the Chateau?

It was Deadline that initially broke the news in July 2022 that Channel 4 had severed ties with Dick and Angel following certain allegations, reports the Express. An independent HR investigation was initiated by Channel 4 after Two Rivers Media, the production company behind the Escape To The Chateau, raised concerns.

A spokesperson for Channel 4 stated at the time: "Channel 4 is taking an active role in challenging unacceptable behaviour in our industry. Following a review of our processes in 2021 we have made it easier to raise complaints both formally and informally.

"We require all our production partners to follow our Supplier Code of Conduct and when concerns are raised with us, they will be taken seriously and action will happen to ensure they are investigated and addressed appropriately. There is always more to do and alongside our suppliers, we are committed to building safe, inclusive and professional working environments."

Speaking on their Instagram page, Dick and Angel commented at the time: "It was a Strawbridge Family decision early last year to conclude Escape To The Chateau. We know there are lots of stories in the press right now.

"It's not worth us even trying to comment or give context, because anything can be made into a good headline. We understand.

"There are two sides to every story and from the incredible support we have received, most of you know that. We are proud of who we are, and we feel we must do what we believe to be correct, that is in fact what kept Escape to the Chateau unique, and whilst we have indeed parted ways with Channel 4, we are hugely grateful to them and their teams for their support and creativity over the years. The future truly could not look more exciting and we thank you for your continued love and support."

Dick went on to say that while he and his wife will always be passionate about getting involved in the work of their home, they want to make sure the children are the priority.

"We made the decision because the kids are growing older, and all the parallel activity was not sustainable at this level," Dick told HELLO! magazine. "We are doers, and we are never going to stop completely, but we're also protecting them.

“Arthur is starting senior school and the pressure on our little ones is phenomenal. When he goes there, people may have heard that his parents have done stuff on television.
