As if The Chase wasn't controversial enough, host Bradley Walsh has gone and created a whole new dimension to the 'scone' vs 'scone' debate. You know the one.

But while most people are divided over whether it's scone as in 'gone' or scone as in 'bone', there are some people out there who pronounce it 'skoon'.

Sadly for Bradley, he's not one of them.

The outrageous blunder came in an episode shown yesterday (July 21) when Bradley asked the question: "Which Shakespeare play ends with the line 'Whom we invite to see us crown'd at Scone'?"

For those of you who are a little rusty on your geography, Scone is a Scottish village in Perth and Kinross and is usually pronounced 'skoon'.

Bradley, however, referred to the village as 'scone' – which is obviously the correct way of pronouncing the most divisive of Britain's baked goods.

Fans of Scone the town (and not scone the food) were understandably unimpressed, and took to Twitter to vent their frustration at Bradley's "ridiculous" pronunciation.

Hey, at least it's not another nonsense fix claim.

In other shocking Chase news, the popular ITV quiz show might be welcoming a new Chaser into its fold – well, that's if fans of the show get their way, of course.

After contestant Renee thrashed Shaun Wallace in the final chase to win £5,000, viewers at home were calling for her to become a more permanent fixture.

The Chase airs on ITV.
