'A Different World': California Sheriff's Deputy Sees Color for the First Time

A sheriff’s deputy in Eureka, California, received a life-changing gift from his fellow deputy on November 14.

In a video shared on the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, Correctional Deputy Samantha Freese is seen giving Correctional Deputy and Sheriff’s SWAP Farm Manager Jeff Dishmon, who is colorblind, enchroma glasses. Dishmon puts on the glasses and immediately becomes emotional, calling what he sees “a different world.”

According to the post, Dishmon and Freese have worked together for the last eight years. “Over the years the two have grown close, nicknaming each other ‘Grandpa’ and ‘Granddaughter,’” the post said. As of writing, the footage has over 3,000 shares on Facebook. Credit: Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office via Storyful
