Diggers clear fly-tipped field seen by thousands of commuters

Diggers cleared a field filled with industrial scale fly-tipping near the M6. Council teams tackled nine separate piles of rotting rubbish dumped off Berrandale Road in Hodge Hill after a barrage of complaints from residents.

Vehicles were driving onto the field, which is close the A452 at Castle Bromwich, and leaving piles of waste behind. Large bollards are being installed to prevent any more access.

The on-going issue was raised by members of a local Facebook group who called for tougher action against the perpetrators. Lisa Ballantyne said: "Another problem with clearing up the fly tipping, it gives out a clear message to the one's dumping it. That's where you dump any rubbish you don't want.

"So the area look's a mess on a regular basis. Those responsible for doing it need too be found fast and given a very very heavy fine."

Leigh Sullivan said: "Probably plenty of evidence of where it’s come from in all that rubbish as it looks like general waste. Council should be checking it and fining them for the clear up.
