Dimitar Berbatov says Tottenham need to win something soon in order to put an end to the question of players leaving in pursuit of silverware.

The former Spurs striker started alongside Robbie Keane as they beat Chelsea in the 2008 League Cup final, Tottenham’s last trophy.

Spurs have tied down a number of key figures, including Mauricio Pochettino, Harry Kane and Dele Alli, to new deals this summer.

While he feels Tottenham have everything in place to win trophies, Berbatov admitted some may still have to leave.

“It might be harsh but it’s the truth, he might need to leave Tottenham if he wants to win a trophy,” Berbatov told Betfair when asked about the future of another star, Harry Winks.

“Every player wants to win something so when they look back over their career they can say ‘I won this and I was a champion’ but I hope Tottenham players don’t have to leave to win something.

“I want to see Tottenham win silverware, any silverware so when a player is asked if they want to leave they can say that they’re in the right place and they’re winners. However, they need to win something soon if they want their team to stop thinking the question if they need to leave to have success.

“Like me, Luka Modric, Gareth Bale we all did it… so it’s a normal question to ask. But I don’t want them asking that question, I just want them to win something. The last time Tottenham won something was 11 years ago, f****** hell, I was there.

“And they have everything they need to win. A great coach, a new stadium coming up, great players. That’s why I get p***** off and scream at the TV.”
