Diogo Jota's fiancée issues Liverpool verdict after special family update
Diogo Jota's fiancée was thrilled to be at Anfield today as Liverpool FC defeated Sevilla 4 - 1. The Portuguese striker is in a long term relationship with Rute Cardoso. The happy couple share two children and Rute is expecting their third child.
Jota was in fine form for Arne Slot's first match in L4 as he opened the scoring with an incredible left-footed volley. The 27-year-old was at the centre of a convincing performance as he also got an assist in the win.
Rute was in the stands for the win and her special message says it all about how the family have perfectly settled on Merseyside since they made the move in 2020. Rute shared a short clip from the Main Stand as she said: "Back home."
Jota announced Rute is pregnant with their third child when he scored a disallowed goal at Euro 2024. Before the goal was ruled out against Czechia, Jota put the ball under his shirt to indicate Rute is pregnant.
Rute has since officially announced the special news with an adorable clip on her Instagram account. She revealed she is expecting her new bundle of joy in November.
Natalia Becker, who is married to Alisson, was one of the first to comment to send messages of support. Thiago Alcantara's wife, Julia Vigas, also sent a heartfelt message. A translation of the post said: "What a joy my friend!! Very happy for you."
Jota will be hoping his performance today will mean he is in the starting line-up for when the Reds get their Premier League campaign underway next week away at Ipswich Town. Speaking after the match, Jota offered an insight into the Anfield dressing room and life under the new head coach as he shared the Dutchman’s post-match reaction.
He said: "We worked hard, some of us did 90 minutes, so a good step into our preparation. Obviously it’s always good to work under victories and although we conceded a goal I think it was a good performance overall.
“New man on the touchline and everyone needs to adapt. I think we are working well, he is demanding. Even with a 4-1 win he was telling us what we need to improve and do better. So, I think that’s the way forward. I think we have played well in this pre-season, but we all know where it counts is next week.
“You try to come with new ideas and when you win, that shows everyone that you are in the right direction. Although the most important [thing] in pre-season is getting that fitness back, building on top with wins is always better and I think that although we had people arriving at different stages we are building a fully fit XI to start the campaign next week.”
Jota was thrilled with his left footed effort and said it is one of the best goals of his career. He told LFC club media. “Yeah, one of the best! I hit it properly with my left foot and it ended up being a great goal. One of my best, for sure.
“So, [I am] happy with the result, with the way played and everybody worked out very hard today so a good step into the first game of the league next week.”
