Disappointed rangers fans launch petition for Europa League final beam back

DISAPPOINTED fans have launched a petition to convince Rangers to screen the Europa League final at Ibrox, for supporters who won't be able to travel to Seville.

It comes after the club confirmed that Ibrox will not host a beamback of next week's Europa League final against Frankfurt.

Yesterday managing director Stewart Roberston said a public screening at the ground would be unlikely due to staffing issues.

The comments were met with frustration from Rangers fans and the club today has confirmed that no event will take place at Ibrox Stadium on match day.

The petition, which has reached more than 4,000 signatures in less than a day, reads: "As amazing an achievement as it has been for Rangers to reach the Europa League Final, it wouldn't have been possible without the support of the fans who have backed the club through thick and thin in recent years and beyond.

"The fact that the club are seriously considering not beaming one of the club's most significant ever games back to Ibrox for those supporters who cannot afford to go to Seville because they've spent so much money supporting their team through the worst recession since the second World War is hugely disappointing.

"The Rangers board need to do whatever they can to at least try and make sure this event happens as a thank you to the working fans who deserve to commemorate this occasion in a fitting and appropriate manner."

Club 1872 have also slammed Rangers chiefs over the decision not to open Ibrox for a beam back next week.

A statement from Rangers from earlier today read: "Unfortunately, Rangers will not be able to provide a matchday screening at Ibrox stadium.

"Whilst we understand the wish for supporters to be able to gather at our home for this momentous occasion, the club does not have sufficient staffing resources to be able to host such a large event due to the number of qualified staff and personnel required to travel to Spain to assist in the safe delivery of the final.

"We could not safely operate an event of this size without the presence of our safety team, all of whom are required in Spain.

"Given the significant UEFA regulatory demands, we are required to deploy our full safety team in Seville, given the anticipated travelling support. This was not an easy decision but it is vital we ensure the safety of the team, management and travelling support in Spain.

"We acknowledge and understand the disappointment and frustration of non-travelling supporters, but there was no safe way of delivering a matchday screening."
