A Discovery of Witches cast talk spin-off possibility

A Discovery of Witches is about to wrap things up with its third season, but could there be room to explore certain side characters in a spin-off?

Agatha Wilson actress Tanya Moodie seems to think so, as she recently told Radio Times that the surface of the daemon world has barely been scratched.

"The main thing I've always contended with, playing a daemon, is that fans always ask me: 'What exactly... what do daemons do?'

"You know, witches do fancy spells, vampires bite people and they're always really testy. And daemons are always just a bit... you know, they wear designer clothes, and are a bit kooky or something. Is that a power?" she explained.

"[In the original book series] they have these kind of heightened abilities, and it's a bit more supernatural. But to interpret that onscreen... it doesn't have space for that.

"The two protagonists have to drive this thing. It's not a series to necessarily explore what everyone does."

She's got a point; rarely does A Discovery of Witches gaze away from the bloodsuckers and sorcery wielders.

Adding to that, Gallowglass star Steven Cree and Andrew Hubbard's Paul Rhys jokingly pitched their spin-off concept.

"Maybe this is a good time... I know that Lachlan [McKinnon, executive producer] is excited to announce that Sky and Bad Wolf are doing a spin-off show with Gallowglass and Hubbard as vampire detectives," shared the former.

Rhys continued: "It's true – you can tell them now Lachlan, it's fine. We've got a working title – it's Hubbard's Cupboard."

A Discovery of Witches series 1-2 are available on Sky and NOW, with a third due in January.
