Police in Coventry have blasted ‘disgusting’ bystanders who filmed an officer who had been knocked off his bike rather than helping him.

The officer had been involved in a chase to catch a bike thief when he was knocked over on Stoney Stanton Road on Wednesday.

Witnessed to the accident took out their mobile phones to film him and take pictures while he lay injured on the road.

They wrote: ‘Very disappointed to report that when one of our team was knocked off his bike while pursuing a stolen bike the first thing that people thought to do was to record the incident on their mobile phones rather than help the rider.’

Quoting the original tweet, they later added: ‘Absolutely disgusting behaviour…

‘For those filming our injured colleague… the difference between us and you is if you ever need our help in future, we will still respond.’

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 101.
