An official McDonald’s Twitter account was "compromised" when it sent out a tweet trolling Donald Trump - before the message was swiftly deleted.
The tweet was posted on the @McDonaldsCorp account, which has 150,000 followers, labelling the president “disgusting” and calling for the return of Barack Obama.
McDonald’s said it had determined that its account, which usually posts informative tweets looking back at the fast-food chain's history, was "hacked by an external source".
It said in a statement that it took swift action to secure its account, and apologised that the tweet was sent through its corporate account.
"Twitter notified us that our account was compromised," it said. "We deleted the tweet, secured our account and are now investigating this."

The tweet said: “You are actually a disgusting excuse of a President and we would love to have @BarackObama back, also you have tiny hands.”
It was swiftly deleted, but not before it was re-shared by thousands of Twitter users, sparking a host of jokes.

Others called for a McDonald's boycott
One user joked: "The McDonald's social media guy is now barricaded in his office as security uses an axe to open the door."
The Telegraph’s Tim Stanley asked: "#McDonalds just lost its best customer?"
"Never knew Mcdonald's served Shade," wrote another.
A Trump supporter responded: "You seriously want to go this route? Great!! You are now officially on the #BoycottMcDonalds list!"
He tweeted: "Can you imagine what the outcry would be if @SnoopDogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama? Jail time!"
Snoop Dogg responded by calling Mr Trump a "f---ing clown".
He said in a statement to Billboard: "When I be putting s---out, I don’t ever expect or look for a reaction. I just put it out because I feel like it’s something that’s missing.
"Any time I drop something, I’m trying to fill in a void. I feel like it’s a lot of people making cool records, having fun, partying, but nobody’s dealing with the real issue with this f---ing clown as president, and the s--- that we dealing with out here, so I wanted to take time out to push pause on a party record and make one of these records for the time being."
