As with the first movie, Descendants 2 ended with a character telling the audience, "You didn't think this was the end of the story, did you?"

And of course it wasn't as Disney Channel has now officially confirmed that Descendants 3 is happening, marking another outing for the teenage children of classic Disney villains Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Jafar and Cruella de Vil.

The first sequel proved to be a huge success, watched by almost 9 million viewers in the US on the night of its premiere, with the audience rising to 21 million when including delayed viewing. It's been a big hit in the UK too with a total of 1.3 million viewers by the end of November since its premiere on October 20, 2017.

So while we're chillin' like a villain waiting for the film to premiere, here's everything we know so far.

Descendants 3 release date: When's it coming?

There's no set premiere date yet, but Disney has confirmed the third film will drop in Summer 2019.

We can guess though, as the first movie premiered on July 31, 2015 and was followed two years later by its sequel at a slightly earlier date of July 21.

So, by that reckoning, Descendants 3 will likely premiere in July 2019, but stay tuned for something more concrete closer to the time.

Descendants 3 cast: Which characters will be in it?

All the original cast will be returning, which means that Dove Cameron (Mal, daughter of Maleficent), Cameron Boyce (Carlos de Vil, son of Cruella), Sofia Carson (Evie, daughter of the Evil Queen), Booboo Stewart (Jay, son of Jafar) and Mitchell Hope (Ben, son of Belle and the Beast) will be in the threequel, since the story has always been about them.

It's also been confirmed that China Anne McClain will be back as Uma, the daughter of Ursula, while Melanie Paxson and Brenna D'Amico will likely reprise their roles as the Fairy Godmother and her daughter Jane, respectively.

Other returning characters could include Jedidiah Goodacre as Chad Charming (son of Cinderella and Prince Charming), Dianne Doan as Lonnie (daughter of Mulan) and Zachary Gibson as Doug (the son of Dopey the Dwarf), alongside characters introduced in the sequel such as Thomas Doherty as Harry Hook (son of Captain Hook), Anna Cathcart as Dizzy (daughter of Drizella Tremaine) and Dylan Playfair as Gil (son of Gaston).

We'll also no doubt get new characters introduced too, including the likely addition of Mal's dad, as confirmed in the film's teaser, so who knows, maybe we'll see the main characters' parents again, like Kristin Chenoweth as Maleficent.

Descendants 3 plot: What is it about?

After an epic battle between Mal and Uma as a giant octopus and dragon, respectively, Descendants 2 ended with Mal reuniting with Ben, Uma swimming away, Mal giving her spell book to the Fairy Godmother and Dizzy accepting an offer to attend Auradon Prep with everyone else.

Again, we have nothing official in terms of plot for Descendants 3 just yet, besides the teaser that Mal will be reunited with her as-yet-unknown dad, so until then we have nothing to do but speculate.

Boyce already has his own idea for a third movie. "I want the barrier to come down on the Isle so the parents come to Auradon and we have an epic duel between the kids and the parents. That would be ideal. That's my dream," he told Teen Vogue, and we'd be well up for that.

Kenny Ortega will be back as director too, and he has also admitted to TVLine that he does think about new characters he could add to the series. "Or I think about characters we already have and what their next journeys might be," he said back in July.

We hope he's already hard at work on ideas then, he has a film to plan.

Descendants 3 trailer: When will it land?

The first trailer for Descendants 2 didn't arrive until April 30, 2017, just three months before its premiere, so we'd imagine it'll be the same for the third movie.

We do have a teaser trailer though to mark the film's announcement, and it features Mal as she's drawn into a forest towards a blue light:

Expect anything more to be released closer to the film's premiere date, and we can probably look forward to a new song from the movie coming with it too, like how 'Ways to Be Wicked' was released with the trailer.
