Yahoo News Disney Just Released Details on Its New Private Island in The Bahamas

Insider noted this week that the new Disney resort is now set to open “in late 2022 or early 2023,” not “as early as 2022,” as originally reported. The site also mentioned that all the Eleuthera construction will come in between $250 million to $400 million. Guests can expect bungalow-style accommodations and many nature trails as well as plenty of white-sand beaches to enjoy.

At the D23 Expo this past weekend, Disney announced its acquisition of a second private island in The Bahamas: Lighthouse Point. According to GMA, the island will be accessible to Disney Cruise Line goers as early as 2022.
As of right now, those who travel aboard the DCL can go to Disney’s first private island, Castaway Cay. And while that’s super exciting as it is, Travel & Leisure reports this new destination is located on the “island of Eleuthera and will pay homage to Caribbean music, art, and food while highlighting conservation efforts through the Disney Conservation Fund.” Oh, and it’s being designed by the Imagineer who helped bring Animal Kingdom to life beyond everyone’s wildest dreams.

Yes, Joe Rohde, who not only led the design behind Animal Kingdom but also was involved with several Epcot pavilions (as well as Disney’s Honolulu Aulani resort and more), confirmed at D23 that his newest project will be highly authentic and beautiful.
And while we don’t know much more about the island itself (yet!), we do know that with this expansion comes three new Disney Cruise Line ships. The first of those new ships will be the Disney Wish, which GMA notes is due to start sailing in January of 2022. The other two new ships—which we were not given any information about—will debut at some point over the next five years.
