The movie musical follows DeBose as Asha, a young woman who wishes on a star and gets more than she bargained for when the star joins her from the sky.

Wish initially drew rave reviews but the film's reception ended up being more muted with some critics, such as Digital Spy's review, giving more mixed reviews.

Wish also disappointed at the box office. It fell short of financial expectations by grossing just $19.5 million in its opening weekend and $31.7 million in the five days following its release while The Hunger Games: A Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes retained the top spot.

DeBose, who won an Oscar for West Side Story, was recently the subject of a singing joke that she did not find funny at the Critics Choice Awards.

Bella Ramsey and Anthony Ramos introduced the Best Song category and joked that some of the nominees were "the most famous voices in the music industry" while others were "actors who think they're singers."

DeBose was included in the latter category and took to her Instagram to reveal that she was not impressed or amused by the joke, writing: "No, I didn't find it funny. Lol."

Wish is available to buy now from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and more.
