Roadworks on a major road into the Victoria Dock area in Hull have been completed almost two weeks early.

The resurfacing work to the "failed carriageway" on Plimsoll Way began on Monday, September 2 with road closures and temporary traffic lights that were expected to be in place until Wednesday, September 25.

However, the road was reopened today (Friday, September 13) - almost a fortnight earlier than planned, following the completion of the final resurfacing works and road marking installations.

Hull City Council says the three-stage operation was necessary to reconstruct and resurface parts of the existing carriageway, from The Haven junction to South Bridge Road, including the roundabout.

Wright Civil Engineering Limited was contracted to complete the scheme.

Councillor Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transportation, roads, and highways at Hull City Council, said: "I am delighted that the resurfacing works on Plimsoll Way have been completed ahead of schedule – just in time for the weekend.

"This is thanks to the efficiency of our contractors Wright Civil Engineering Limited. Not only has this scheme helped us futureproof our road network, but it has also helped make the road safer for all users.
