Distracted Driver Veers Off Ohio Highway While Texting

The Ohio State Highway Patrol released footage on April 9 showing a driver who was texting on his phone veer off the road. April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.

This footage shows the driver hitting a guardrail in Canton just after midnight on March 12.

Police said the driver received a citation for marked lanes violations with a distracted driving enhancement, failure to control, and failure to wear a seat belt.

There were reportedly more than 15,000 distracted driving crashes in southwest Ohio over the past four years, including 57 fatalities. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said distracted driving killed 3,142 people in 2019. Credit: Ohio State Highway Patrol via Storyful
