Drivers looking to use the Dartford Crossing this weekend may need to follow a diversion route as the QEII Bridge is set to fully close. A recent routine safety inspection uncovered the need for ‘important repairs’ to the busy crossing between Essex and Kent.

For these to take place, the QEII Bridge will close from 10pm on Saturday, June 15 for a total of seven hours. During this time, repairs to a bridge joint will be completed, with the bridge set to re-open at 5am on Sunday, June 16.

The west tunnel was scheduled to close on Saturday night for routine safety inspections, but will now remain open overnight for northbound traffic. Meanwhile, a contraflow diversion will be in effect via the east tunnel, beginning from 9.30pm on Saturday night.

A height restriction will be in place however for vehicles over 4.8m (15’-9”) tall, which will instead be diverted via the M25 clockwise. A spokesperson for National Highways added: “Next weekend’s routine closure of the QEII bridge, which had already been scheduled between 10pm on Saturday 22 June and 5am Sunday 23 June, will remain in place for routine maintenance work and for any follow-up repairs that may be needed.”

Closures of the east tunnel will also be taking place throughout the coming week. See below for the full timeline of closures:
