Drivers are set for another weekend of travel disruption at the Dartford Crossing as the QEII Bridge will close for the second time this month. Last weekend (June 15 to June 16), the key crossing between Essex and Kent saw an overnight closure for "important repairs" following a routine safety inspection.

The bridge was closed for a total of seven hours while crews repaired a key bridge joint. Now, the QEII Bridge will fully close once more from 10pm on Saturday (June 22) to 5am on Sunday (June 23).

Explaining the planned closure, a spokesperson for National Highways said: “The closure of the QEII bridge, which had already been scheduled between 10pm on Saturday, June 22 and 5am Sunday, June 23, will remain in place for routine maintenance work and for any follow-up repairs that may be needed.” Road users will once again need to follow diversion routes while the bridge is shut.

A contraflow system will be installed via the east tunnel to keep southbound traffic moving. The west tunnel, meanwhile, will not close as planned and will instead remain open to northbound traffic, however there will be a height restriction in place.

Vehicles over 4.8m (15’-9”) will have to use a separate diversion route via the M25 clockwise. The east tunnel will then close overnight from 10pm on Sunday (June 23) until 5am on Monday (June 24) for routine safety inspections.

Weeknight closures of the east tunnel will also be taking place until the start of July, at which time regular weeknight closures of the west tunnel will begin. See below for a full timeline of the upcoming closures at the Dartford Crossing this week and full diversion details.
