Dixie Fire Burns More Than 208,000 Acres in Northern California

Footage shared by firefighters in Northern California shows flames from the Dixie fire engulfing trees. The fire grew to more than 208,000 acres by July 27.

Montecito Firefighters shared video on Instagram showing the forest fire, which is burning in Northern California’s Plumas and Butte counties. More than 5,100 total personnel were fighting the fire, officials said.

The post caption read that four Montecito firefighters who had been assigned to the nearby Beckwourth Complex fire and then reassigned to the Dixie Fire would be relieved on July 26 after 14 days in the field.

“We are excited to welcome them home and thank the crew swapping in today for stepping up to help the communities of Plumas and Butte counties,” the post read.

As of Tuesday morning, July 27, the fire had grown to 208,206 acres (about 325 square miles) and was 23 percent contained, fire officials said. Credit: Montecito Fire via Storyful
