As if the new series of Doctor Who couldn't get more exciting, it seems that Shaun Dooley will be joining his former Broadchurch co-star Jodie Whittaker in the show.

A brand new trailer for Whittaker's debut season as the Doctor dropped at Comic-Con yesterday (July 19), which saw her struggling with the effects of her recent regeneration.

As well as meeting the Doctor's new friends Graham (Bradley Walsh), Ryan (Tosin Cole) and Yasmin (Mandip Gill), we also get a glimpse at several guest stars.

And although it's quick, you can clearly see Dooley 31 seconds into the trailer standing behind Whittaker, dressed as a bit of a gunslinger.

Dooley himself pretty much confirmed the news by tweeting a link to the new trailer after it debuted online, and although we don't know anything more about his appearance, several of his fans have made it clear that they can't wait to see him in action.

As well as his role in the second series of Broadchurch, in which he played the father of a missing girl, the actor is also known for his roles in Misfits, Gunpowder, The Game and The White Queen.

Of course Dooley isn't the only famous guest star to be appearing in the Thirteenth Doctor's first series, with Alan Cumming and Lee Mack also confirmed to be starring.

As well as the new trailer, we've also been gifted some new posters, including one which reveals the Thirteenth Doctor's sonic screwdriver:

But still no sign of the TARDIS or any new monsters...

New showrunner Chris Chibnall, who's overseeing a soft reboot of the BBC sci-fi drama, recently confirmed to Digital Spy that there will be no two-part stories in the upcoming series, and that a Christmas special is definitely in the works for this year.

Doctor Who's 11th series will premiere on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US this autumn.
