Doctor shares how to have 'everything shower' and what steps you're doing wrong
Rather than an 'everyday' wash, an ‘everything’ shower is when we do, well, everything in one fell swoop. Wash face, wash hair, remove hair (if that’s your preference) and generally get pampered.
Most people do these steps, once or twice a week as they can take quite a lot of time. Now, a doctor has revealed the exact steps we should be taking to ensure we’re getting the most out of our shower experience and maintaining personal hygiene health.
Dr Nicole James took to Threads to share some insider information as a cosmetic medical professional. She wrote: “Here’s my advice to get the most out of your everything shower.” One of the main activities that happens during an ‘everything’ shower is washing your hair. Dr James recommended: “Rinse your hair thoroughly. Residual conditioner can clog pores, leading to bacne. Rinse thoroughly to ensure your skin stays clear and clean.”

Next up is exfoliation using either a mitt or a glycolic/retinol body wash. It’s important to remember that retinol is recommended to be used every other day at first, particularly on the face, as it’s very strong.
Discussing what steps to take, Dr James wrote: “Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, helps fade hyperpigmentation, smooths strawberry legs, and reduces ingrown hairs. Glycolic and retinol promote skin cell turnover for even better results.”
After getting thoroughly cleaned, it’s time to lock in all the goodness you’ve done to your skin with a decent moisturiser. Applying to damp skin, Dr James suggests using shea butter as it will seal in hydration and strengthen the skin barrier for lasting moisture.
Last but not least, after moisturising, Dr James recommends using body oil. She wrote: “Body oil seals in moisture and adds a radiant glow, helping to keep your skin smooth and soft all day long.”
Reacting to the post people were impressed with the advice, and many commented that they would now have to step up their shower game. One user replied: “Thank you! This is excellent advice.” Another person wrote: “Omg I’m so proud of me this is my exact routine.” And someone else shared: “Reading this as my friend is getting off the phone to takena shower. I read it to her and she was interested enough to want me to send it to her!”
