Missy's fate looked final in 'The Doctor Falls', but that doesn't mean it's the last we've seen of Michelle Gomez.

The Doctor Who villain stabbed John Simm's incarnation of the Master and left him to regenerate into her, but not before he inflicted a killing blow on her.

It looks like Missy's story is over... but is it? After all, we're talking about Doctor Who here.

Gomez was asked by TVLine at Comic-Con about whether she will return.

"Probably not," she said. "I think that's enough of Missy now.

"It's good to know when to leave the party. It was a jolly good party, but time to leave – and then maybe come back, but time to leave for now."

Maybe come back?

"It feels like this was a chapter – a perfect chapter, actually – with Steven [Moffat] and Peter [Capaldi]. I don't know about being a Master to another Doctor. I feel very loyal to Peter and I don't know how that would work, but I am willing to find out at a later date."

So that's not a definitive 'no'.

We did see John Simm return, of course, after a several-year absence. Never say never.

In fact, that's what Simm said when he was asked recently about whether he could come back yet again as the Master.

"You know what, I don't know," he told Doctor Who Magazine (issue 514 is on sale now). "I mean, I wouldn't have thought in a million years that I'd be back [in 2017], yet here I am talking about it. So never say never."

Doctor Who will return to BBC One this Christmas for Peter Capaldi's last adventure, before Jodie Whittaker takes over as the 13th Doctor from next year.
