Yahoo News Doctor Who star Tom Baker explains why he was a good choice for Time Lord
Tom Baker has revealed why he believes he was a good choice for TV show Doctor Who.
The British actor, 86, played the fourth Time Lord from 1974 to 1981, and still provides a voice for the beloved character in audio plays.
He's considered by many to be one of the best incarnations of the Doctor, who has also been played by Christopher Eccleston, Matt Smith and Jode Whittaker.
Reflecting upon his role, Baker told The Guardian: “What I enjoy most of all in the last 50 years of my life is that gift of playing Doctor Who.”
He then shared why he thinks he was a good match for the character.
“Because he’s a good soul and I’m a good soul, it kind of licensed me to be my own rather silly but good-natured jolly self, you know, with pretensions to be heroic,” Baker added.
He said that, while he can't remember the day he left the BBC series, he “couldn't really imagine it actually ending for me”.
Baker continued: “And, of course, in no time at all, this was proved to be true.”
Former Doctor Who star David Tennant recently said he felt “stupid” marrying the daughter of Peter Davison, who also played the Time Lord years before.
The actor, who played the 10th Doctor from 2005 to 2010, married his wife Georgia Moffett in 2011.
