Doctor Strange star Charlize Theron shares update on Marvel future

Charlize Theron made her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in a credits scene in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, with her character Clea appearing to whisk Benedict Cumberbatch's titular hero on a new adventure.

But we've heard nothing following up on that since the film premiered, either through a mention or plot point within the film itself, or from any real-life interviews or production news. So when can we see Clea return?

The answer is, not for a while.

Chatting to MTV's Josh Horowitz while promoting Fast X in Rome, Theron was asked if she knows anything about her MCU future and she said: "I don't. No, I haven't gotten a call.

"I've not gotten a [call], Is that bad? No, I'm not lying. I haven't gotten a call. Is that bad?"

We didn't get to know much about Clea during her very brief appearance in Multiverse of Madness, but she's got plenty of backstory in the comics.

There she is related to first movie's big bad Dormammu and is closely linked to the Dark Dimension. She and Strange fall in love with each other, although their need to defend the different realms from all sorts of supernatural baddies means they don't get to settle down together

It looks like the MCU definitely has plans to have her as a love interest though, as teased by Multiverse of Madness screenwriter Michael Waldron.

"[Clea and Strange] have a lot of great adventures in the comics, and we knew we wanted to introduce her, but it felt like we had to close the book to some extent on his love story with Christine Palmer, Rachel McAdams' character."
