When Ruhma's handbag strap breaks suddenly, Mrs Tembe cheerily suggests she should treat herself to a new bag. However, Ruhma snaps at her about people who overspend on frivolous things.

Soon afterwards, Ruhma is sewing her bag strap back on when Mrs Tembe seeks her out. Ruhma apologises for her overreaction and explains about meeting up with some of Heston's surgeon friends and their wives at the weekend. A conversation about designer goods made Ruhma feel that she doesn't fit into Heston's world. Ruhma tells Mrs Tembe of Heston's ridiculous offer to update her whole wardrobe, questioning whether she overreacted.

Mrs Tembe suggests Heston was merely being generous and when Ruhma mentions how hard she has saved to give Shak a large cash gift for his birthday, Mrs Tembe pointedly comments on how nice it feels to treat someone you love – but her observation falls on deaf ears.

Later that afternoon, Mrs Tembe collars Ruhma to say that although her financial resourcefulness is to be admired, that spending money on oneself is not just alright but necessary. Zara taught her that, which is why she bought a new house. Ruhma argues that a house is very different to a bag, but seems to be listening.

Meanwhile, when Valerie receives a wedding invitation from a friend who met their fiancé online, she is inspired to try internet dating again, ignoring Ayesha's note of caution over the perils of trolls. At The Mill, Valerie struggles to find or take a good photo and write her profile, so Ayesha offers to sort it for her.

Later, Valerie is excited when she lands herself a date with a man called Pete.

Elsewhere, Emma tries to help a single father, who is risking his own physical and mental health to care for his daughter.
