Doctors star spots familiar face in EastEnders storyline

Eagle-eyed EastEnders fans who also watch Doctors might have noticed a familiar face pop up lately.

Joanna Bending has been appearing on Albert Square in the last few weeks as social worker Jackie Fairhurst as part of Kat Slater and her violent son Tommy's storyline.

One of the people who noticed her new soap role was Bending's former co-star Elisabeth Dermot Walsh, who played Zara Carmichael on Doctors.

"Whoah back up. Isn't that @BBCDoctors Dr Michelle Walton moonlighting on @bbceastenders?" she wrote on Twitter/X amid Joanna's first appearance.

"A GP AND a Social Worker; she is a woman of many talents! Whoop Whoop @jobendy. Love You. XX."

During last night's (November 5) episode, Elisabeth posted about her co-star on EastEnders again, joking that she was "cheating" on Doctors.

"Can I just say WhatTheActual?? Why is @BBCDoctors #DrMichelleWalton on @bbceastenders Again??!! This is beginning to feel like cheating @jobendy," she jokingly wrote.

"Why I oughtta…," she added in a follow-up tweet.

Joanna joined in the fun, responding to Elisabeth's first post asking: "Have you got special glasses on?! How did you know it was me?!"

"Obvs special glasses," Elisabeth replied. "Because Jackie Fairhurst looked not one jot like Michelle Walton!"

Doctors' final episode was originally set to air in December, but has since been brought forward to November 14. The BBC announced last year that the show had been axed due to monetary issues.

The cast recently teased details about the finale, stating that the writers had created a storyline that involves all of the ensemble cast for a fitting send-off.

EastEnders and Doctors both air on BBC One and stream on iPlayer.
