Drew Barrymore obviously doesn't eat real flesh in Santa Clarita Diet – that would be wrong on pretty much every level.
However, we are all curious as to how the Netflix show recreates the human flesh that her cannibal character devours.
Well, the show's special make-up master Christien Tinsley has opened up about how they make those scenes so gross and believable, and how they were made trickier by the fact that Barrymore is a vegetarian.
"There were so many things you couldn't use," he told the NY Post. "I would have said let's get some raw tuna, sushi-grade, and bloody it up and make life easy and it didn't work that way. We ended up defaulting to gummy bear formula.
"It's gelatinous, it's translucent, we can cast it into food-grade moulds we created to look like meat and visceral tendon, and we could paint them with food dyes."
In the end, they opted for dyed pasta for the meat, and the blood milkshakes were nothing but a mix of beetroots and bananas. Lovely.
However, any fears over Barrymore's dietary requirements were put to rest early on, it turned out.
"I remember the first day that we had to work with Drew, she was going to be chewing on some meat and she was going to get bloody – it was going to be on her mouth, it was going to be over her mouth, on her clothes, her hands.
"She would actually grab the bottle of blood and squeeze it into her mouth, pour it onto her chin and let it drip down onto her clothes. I think she was having a good time not being Drew in the other movies that we've seen her in."
He added: "She was Drew the cannibal and I think she was having fun with that."
Santa Clarita Diet is now streaming on Netflix.
