Brits can now get money off their bills when dining out as part of the Government's Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

The initiative will run throughout August and gives people a discount of up to 50 per cent - with a £10 per head cap - when eating or drinking soft drinks in a participating restaurant or other food establishment.

The discount will be available all day on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, meaning it can be applied at breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It will include food and non-alcoholic drinks, and will apply to both adults and children.

Ministers hope the promotion will provide a much-needed boost to the UK's ailing hospitality sector, which has been hammered by the coronavirus pandemic.

So, here's some information on where you can enjoy some money off a meal out this month:

Are takeaways covered by the Eat Out to Help Out scheme?

Only restaurants that offer dine-in service will be eligible to register for the scheme.

This means there will be no discounts available for takeaway-only restaurants, mobile food vans or private catering services.

Businesses must possess facilities for people to dine in to take part in the scheme, meaning that venues offering informal seating in an area that does not belong to them are not eligible to enrol.

Which restaurants are participating near me?

More than 72,000 eateries, including several major chains, are taking part in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

The Government has launched a new postcode checker to help people find restaurants that are taking part in the scheme.

People can find places nearby offering discounted dining by entering their postcode, with the webpage then bringing up a list of participating businesses.

The postcode checker is available to use here.
